The Trial of the Sekhemas in Path of Exile 2 is a challenging Ascendancy trial encountered in Act 2. To access the Trial, you must first defeat Balbala, the Traitor, who is found in the Traitor’s Passage area. After defeating Balbala, you obtain Balbala’s Barya—a special coin required to enter the Trial.

Once you have Balbala’s Barya, you return to the Ardura Caravan and use the Desert Map to travel to the Trial of the Sekhemas. The Trial itself is a roguelike gauntlet of rooms with combat challenges, traps, puzzles, and time-limited objectives, culminating in a boss fight (Zarohk, the Temporal). You travel from room to room by selecting paths on a map, carefully managing your “Honour” health bar alongside your life and energy shield.

Honour is unique to the Trial: it acts like a secondary health pool that depletes when you take damage and cannot be restored by normal healing methods. You can only restore Honour with special boons, relics, and shrines found within the Trial. If your Honour reaches zero, you fail the Trial and must start over.

Test of Time Barya is a special variant of the Sekhemas coin you can use to modify the Trial by adding timed objectives, creating a speedrun-style challenge. This coin is often obtained later in the game from higher-level content or repeated Trials.

    Key points for success include:

    • Prioritize increasing your character’s Honour resistance and maximum Honour to survive longer.

    • Learn the patterns of enemies and traps; avoid damage as much as possible to preserve Honour.

    • Choose rooms carefully based on their boons (benefits) and afflictions (penalties).

    • Use relics and boons strategically to aid in combat and preserve Honour.

    • The Trial can be replayed multiple times by obtaining more Djinn Barya coins, which drop as random loot.

Successfully completing the Trial of the Sekhemas is necessary for Ascendancy progression and provides valuable rewards and character power boosts.
