Breachstone Breakdown: Everything You Need to Know About Breach Encounters
Breach is a popular endgame league mechanic in Path of Exile 2, centered around opening dimensional tears that spawn powerful monsters for extended, high-density combat encounters.
Starting a Breach
Breaches appear on the Atlas as nodes marked with a purple hand symbol.
When entering a map with a Breach, you’ll find a large purple “hand” structure on the ground. Touching it starts the Breach event.
A growing circle expands from the breach point, and within it waves of monsters spawn continuously from the edges.
You must defeat these monsters rapidly to keep the breach open—the longer you kill quickly, the wider the breach circle grows, potentially filling the entire map.
Mechanics of the Encounter
Monsters spawn in massive packs, including white, magic, rare, and unique monsters exclusive to Breach encounters.
Killing monsters extends the breach duration, allowing you to farm more loot and experience.
Scattered throughout the breach zone are Clasped Hands, interactive objects that drop extra loot like catalysts and breach splinters when activated.
Rewards and Drops
Breach monsters drop valuable loot such as currency, skill and spirit gems, catalysts, breach rings, and rare gear—item level can be quite high in Breach encounters.
Collect Breach Splinters dropped by monsters and Clasped Hands. Collecting 300 splinters forms a Breachstone, which grants access to the pinnacle boss encounter.
The Breach Boss: Xesht, We Who Are One
Using a Breachstone at the Realmgate teleports you to the Twisted Domain, where you fight waves of monsters culminating in a battle against Xesht.
Survival and speed are keys: you must keep killing monsters fast enough to maintain the encounter’s timer and progress to face the boss.
The boss drops high-tier loot and valuable currency.
Farming Tips and Strategies
Atlas Passives: Invest in nodes like Crumbling Walls and Grasping Hands to increase breach encounters and loot.
Precursor Tablets: Using a Breach Precursor Tablet on a Lost Tower adds breach encounters to nearby maps, allowing efficient farming.
Positioning: Avoid the center of the breach circle since that’s where monsters spawn fastest. Instead, move around the edge in one consistent direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) to avoid being surrounded.
Mobility Skills: Use movement skills like Flame Dash, Whirling Blades, or Dash to reposition quickly and avoid getting pinned.
Kiting: Pull and kill monsters in manageable packs to maintain control and maximize uptime.
Breach encounters are high-intensity, rewarding endgame events requiring fast clears, good positioning, and mobility. They offer rich loot, experience, and the chance to collect Breachstones to challenge the powerful boss Xesht. Efficient farming hinges on map preparation, Atlas passive investment, and mastering crowd control and movement to sustain long breach durations.
