  • Unlocking the Trialmaster: Why Deadly Fate Matters

Posted by Spencer on 16/08/2025 at 12:18 PM

The Trialmaster is the final boss in the Trial of Chaos in Path of Exile 2 and defeating him is crucial as it unlocks your 4th Ascendancy point, a key milestone in building a powerful character.

To access the Trialmaster’s lair, you must first complete 10 rounds of the Trial of Chaos. At the end of the 10th round, you fight a boss that drops one of three critical Fate Fragments required to enter the Trialmaster’s arena:

    • Cowardly Fate (dropped by Uxmal, The Beastlord)

    • Deadly Fate (dropped by Bahlak, The Sky Seer)

    • Victorious Fate (dropped by Chetza, The Feathered Plague)

These fragments drop randomly, so you may need to run multiple 10-round trials or acquire them through player trading to collect all three. Once you have these fragments, you insert them into the door at the end of round 10’s finale, unlocking access to challenge the Trialmaster.

The Deadly Fate fragment is especially significant because without it, you cannot open the door to the Trialmaster’s arena. Each Fate piece symbolizes part of the challenge’s key, and missing one means being locked out of the boss fight entirely.

Defeating the Trialmaster is a demanding encounter with complex mechanics and punishing attacks, including time-stop effects and expanding damaging zones. Mastering dodging, positioning, and timing is essential.

Why Deadly Fate (and the other fragments) matter:

    • Gatekeeping the Trialmaster Fight: Without all three fragments, including Deadly Fate, you cannot enter the Trialmaster’s domain.

    • Unlocking Ascendancy Points: Killing the Trialmaster for the first time grants you an additional Ascendancy point, boosting your build’s power.

    • Access to Unique Rewards: The Trialmaster drops powerful unique items and corrupted Inscribed Ultimatums, offering further crafting and gameplay benefits.

    • Endgame Progression: The fight marks a critical step towards endgame content mastery and character growth.

The Deadly Fate fragment is one of the three essential keys needed to unlock and face the Trialmaster, serving as a vital step in your progression through Path of Exile 2’s challenging Trial of Chaos content. Collecting it ensures you can challenge this defining boss and unlock key rewards and ascendancy upgrades.
